Have you ever visited a business’ website and been greeted by a picture of young professionals grinning at each other as they huddle around a computer screen?

How about flashing their pearly-white smiles over a stack of paperwork, or while drawing motivational business phrases on a whiteboard?

WHY is it that every online business appears to employ models with photo-finish smiles?

And HOW is it that these genetically superior employees always manage to look so enthusiastic about the most mundane adminstrative tasks?

Let’s get real –

Nothing makes you lose interest (or roll your eyes!) like these obvious and overused stock images. We all know that there are real people behind every website and social media account… and yet on the “contact us” page we see the same girl wearing a headset that we’ve seen on four other business websites.

These images are cliché as can be.

Good marketers are pretty skilled at avoiding written clichés (most of the time), so why is it that SO many businesses are still getting caught out by visual clichés?

One of the biggest mistakes people make with their marketing is brushing of the VISUAL elements as nice “additions” to supplement the text about how great and unique the company’s products and services are.

In fact, this is backwards.

Visuals are actually more important now than ever - just take a look at the boom in visual social media platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter Vine (to name just a few!)

Visuals are a great way to engage more prospects in a lot less time.

In fact, research from 3M Corporation and Zabisco shows that 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and the brain processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text…

And, according to ROI Research, 44% of users are more likely to engage with brands if they post pictures than any other media.

On top of being a low-cost way to earn high engagement from new and existing customers, great visuals appeal to your busiest prospects, making it easy to grab their attention with an instantly digestible solution, even when they’re on the go and don’t have time (or can’t be bothered) to read long blocks of text.

So, consider the implications of this on visitors to your website, blog, social media pages… or just about anywhere else that you’re using visual marketing.

Given that you’ve got about 5 seconds to “hook” visitors to your website before they lose interest and leave, using great visuals is a HUGE opportunity to win interest (and new customers) fast!

BUT, while good visual marketing has many benefits...

Bad visual marketing can cost you dearly!

FACT: Visual clichés make your business forgettable at best and laughable at worst.

So, in our quest to keep your visual marketing cliché-free (and because we needed a good laugh), the team here at Hudson Fusion have put together a “Hall of Shame”, featuring 12 hilariously clichéd stock images that businesses should AVOID at all costs…

You’ll definitely recognize some of these (hopefully not from your own marketing, and if you do then get in touch with us for a consultation immediately!)
