Make the Most of your New Website Launch

Congratulations! After months of hard work, your new website is nearing completion. If you’re like most businesses, the project required a lot of planning, management, testing and time. And while it’s tempting to think about kicking back and celebrating and then not giving your website another thought, the truth is that your website launch holds great opportunity for your business that you don’t want to miss out on.

Here are a few tips and thoughts around your imminent site launch:

EMAIL ANNOUNCEMENT

Most businesses have a list of current and past clients, vendors, partners or prospects. Announcing your new website is the perfect opportunity to reconnect via email with your database and invite your contacts to visit the site.

Your email should not only announce the site with a hyperlink, but should also talk a bit about why you redesigned the site. It's a chance for you to talk about recent growth, rebranding, updating the content to better serve your clients, etc. There's a reason you redesigned the site...and you can give that reason a positive spin.

And don’t forget….once you open the lines of communication again, keep it going! Plan a series of reasons to reach out again to your list. It could be to announce a webinar series, a newsletter, some helpful resources or a great e-book or guide.

SOCIAL MEDIA

You can start talking about the upcoming launch of your site a few weeks in advance. Use social media to announce the launch and be sure to include a link to your site.

PLAN AN EVENT

Your new website is a reason to celebrate. So, consider celebrating with a Launch Party for your clients and/or your employees. For employees, the new site can be a source of pride and excitement. So, use this opportunity to celebrate your achievements together. For clients, it's always nice to have a reason to get some "face time" and a celebration with a "reveal" of the site can be a fun reason to get together.

After your site launches....

SHARE THE GOOD NEWS

Make sure you share all the great feedback and congratulations with the rest of your team. It’s an opportunity to share in the pride of a job well done!

FIX YOUR BUGS

Inevitably, you’ll find a small thing or two that slipped through the cracks…a stray bullet mark or odd difference in layout between browsers. Don’t panic…just alert your web development team and get it remedied.

UPDATE YOUR COLLATERAL

If you haven’t included this in your pre-launch plan, you’ll want to take a look at your other marketing materials to make sure that everything is cohesive and consistent. You may need to update your business cards, letterhead, or even an email signature.

Your new website is something to talk about! So, don’t miss out on this opportunity to start a conversation with your current database and to invite new visitors to your site. Everyone is curious to see something new….so use this as the start of a strategic and ONGOING communication strategy to grow your business.
